Ross Pearson vs. Junior Assuncao targeted for UFC 141

Ultimate Fighter winner Ross Pearson asked his Twitter followers if a move to featherweight would do him good. The response was a near-unanimous yes and now it appears Pearson has his first fight at the weight class with it looking like he’ll meet Junior Assuncao at UFC 141.

UFC 141 takes place December 30 from Las Vegas, Nevada and will feature a main event of Brock Lesnar vs. Alistair Overeem. Lesnar is a former UFC heavyweight champion, while Overeem is an ex-Strikeforce champ. The contest will provide a new #1 contender for the UFC title.

News of the potential match-up was confirmed to Tatame by Assuncao.

Assuncao (13-4) called out Pearson after defeating Eddie Yagin this past September at UFC 135 in his return to the UFC. Assuncao has won seven consecutive fights since a 2008 loss to Torrance Taylor by decision.

Pearson (12-5) lost to Edson Barboza at UFC 134 by Split Decision. He is 4-2 in his UFC career, including wins over Spencer Fisher, Dennis Siver, and Aaron Riley.
