It may be a smaller blip than normal on MMA’s proverbial radar screen but UFC 138 still boasts some interesting bouts for those who more interested in technique than they are star-power.
Headlined by brash brawler Chris Leben locking horns against accomplished wrestler Mark Munoz, also known for delivering some powerful strikes, the card will be shown for free on Spike TV this Saturday night starting at 8:00 PM EST. However, before the middleweights or their peers can take to the Octagon tomorrow night they have to first step onto the scale as they did earlier today.
Munoz and Leben both came in on target as did the bulk of the other competitors slated for action in Birmingham, England. However, one notable exception included Thiago Alves who was 172 pounds and has been given additional time to shed the weight. Alves has a history of coming in heavy and has no doubt already received an earful from his bosses as a result of today’s transgression.
UPDATE: Alves has since dropped an additional pound and made the 171 pound maximum.
