UPDATE: Diego Sanchez facing Jake Ellenberger in return bout

Reports of a welterweight clash between Jake Ellenberger for the UFC on FOX 2 card were found untrue when Sanchez’ manager denied them on Twitter recently. However, it seems the fight is still on for some time in 2012.

Ellenberger is coming off the biggest win of his career, as he stopped Jake Shields to improve to 5-1 in the UFC. “The Juggernaut” landed a heavy knee on Shields, a former contender for the UFC welterweight title and an ex-Strikeforce champion, and followed that up with a series of punches that ended the fight.

Sanchez was set to meet Matt Hughes earlier this year, but suffered a hand injury in training and was forced to pull out of the fight. The former Ultimate Fighter winner is 23-4 in his career and is working his way back into title-talk at 170 pounds after competing as a lightweight for much of his career.

Reports of the fight being a go were made by HeavyMMA, as nothing has been confirmed by the UFC. UFC on FOX 2 is expected to take place on January 28 in Chicago. Other potential landing spots for the bout expected in the period directly after that include a trio of events in February and a recently rumored show in Australia on March 4.

UPDATE: The UFC has announced Ellenberger and Sanchez will headlined the first UFC on Fuel card set for February 15 in Omaha, Nebraska.

No way in hell will this fight be boring in any way-can’t wait to see Diego back in action

  • Wow Diego is screwed on this one. Unlike Kampmann Jake wont be content just to pick him apart and risk losin a decision……..Jake’s gonna come at him right hands firing off one after the other.
Diego might get stopped for the first time in his career other than that cut from BJ.

This will definitely be a hard tough fight. I expect Ellenberger to get the win, but Diego certainly has the tools to derail the juggernaut.

Diego has the chin and the cardio to give Ellenberger trouble. A lot of people will see Ellenberger with all the advantages here, but this is definitely a dangerous fight for him.

Big fan of Ellenberger, not a fan of Diego, but edub is right. People are underestimating Sanchez in this fight. Jake hasn’t faced anyone as tenacious and aggressive as Sanchez except Condit. And even though I thought he won that fight, the judges saw it the other way. Diego is gonna go hard all three rounds and Ellenberger can’t let up in the third like he did against Condit or he’s gonna walk out on the wrong end of another decision. Jake needs to bring his A game and stay on Diego the entire time if he wants the W.

Heard this fight will be on the very hard to find FUEL TV(at least in my area)-Which sucks for a lot of us because comcast doesn’t even carry the channel-Also- it is rumored to be the headliner(maybe five rounder?)
