With the top two fights on the second UFC on FOX event set, the rest of the card is starting to fill up. Today the UFC added a featherweight bout to the event as top prospect Charles Oliveira welcomes Eric Wisely to the Octagon in January. After spending their careers at lightweight, both men will be dropping to 145 in hopes of making a run at current champion Jose Aldo.
News of the bout was first reported by MMAJunkie.com.
After bursting onto the scene with 14 straight victories to start his career, including impressive submission wins over Darren Elkins and Efrain Escudero in his first two UFC bouts, “do Bronx” hit a speed bump by the name of Jim Miller at UFC 124, losing by way of kneebar in the first round. Following the first loss of his career, Oliveira defeated Nik Lentz in his next contest but the bout was changed to a no contest as an illegal knee by Oliveira led to the submission finish. In his last bout, Oliveira was finished by strikes in the first round by Donald Cerrone this past August.
Looking to push Oliveira further down the slope will be Wisely, a MMA veteran who has victories over the likes of Hermes Franca and Matt Veach. “Little Lee” is best known for his scrap against the gritty Pat Healy at Strikeforce Challengers 18 this past against. Despite losing to the bout, Wisely hung tough against a respected veteran and managed to last the entire 15 minutes.
UFC on FOX 2 is scheduled for January 28 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The night will be headlined by a pair of #1 contender’s fights as Rashad Evans takes on Phil Davis in the main event while Mark Munoz battles Chael Sonnen in the co-main event.
