Michael Bisping-Demian Maia rounds out “tripleheader” at UFC on FOX 2

It will be a quick turnaround for Michael Bisping, as “The Count” has signed to face Demian Maia on January 28 at UFC on FOX 2. Bisping recently defeated Jason “Mayhem” Miller this past weekend to extend his current win streak to four.

The UFC announced the match-up earlier today.

Maia is coming off a victory over Jorge Santiago at UFC 136 that improved his mark to 3-1 since a loss to current UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva back in 2010. Bisping’s last four victims have been Miller, Dan Miller, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Jorge Rivera.

UFC on FOX 2 will feature title-eliminator bouts between light heavyweights Rashad Evans and Phil Davis, along with middleweights Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz. Bisping-Maia will be a featured fight on the FOX show, which will be held inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Now this will be a real test for Bisping as Demian has a serious ground game, much better takedowns than Miller, and his striking is getting better everytime we see him. Id take Bisping by decision here. What a completly awesome card, seriously PPV worthy any way you look at it.

I think Bisping’s striking is light years ahead of Maia’s and his takedown defense is good enough to shrug off most of Damien’s attempts too. But Maia’s BJJ is so good I wouldn’t be surprised to see him try a couple of flying maneuvers (armbars, triangles, heel hooks, etc). No one expects them and no one seems to train for them anymore.
