Chad Griggs becomes UFC’s latest heavyweight addition

Chad Griggs, who made a name for himself on the heavyweight scene when he earned a TKO victory over Bobby Lashley, is headed to the UFC.

Griggs won his last three fights in Strikeforce but the promotion is in the process of having its heavyweight division absorbed by the UFC, instead focusing its attention on other weight classes. Griggs joins Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum as former Strikeforce heavyweights signed by the UFC.

MMAWeekly was the first to break the news on Griggs’ signing. No opponent or date for his debut have been announced.

“The Grave Digger” is 11-1 in his career with the only defeat coming back in 2007 via submission to Shane Ott. His most recent performance came against Valentijn Overeem in June who he beat soundly in the opening round of action.

Nice. Now bring over Del Rosario and Cormier and the UFC will have a good mix of top contenders, good prospects, and exciting mid card HW’s.

hope they dont forget Del Rosario once he’s up and running.
Also i know Arlovski likes to get KO’d these days but he’s still entertaining and a good draw.
Kharitanov i would love to see go over, been a big fan for years, same with Josh Barnett.
and yes, Cormier would stir some shit too

Del Rosario and Cormier!? What about Kharitonov, Big Foot and Barnett? All of the top SF HWs would do well in the UFC. Del Rosario vs Nelson, Kharitonov vs Kongo, Barnett vs Mir, Big Foot vs Nog, Cormier vs Overeem. All of those fights would be worth watching.

I hope UFC signs almost all of the SF heavyweights. I think a bunch of them could be “in the mix.” The middle and lower tiers of the UFC HW division are pretty weak…McCorkle, Morecraft, Struve, Barry, Hunt…shit, are all of those guys still in the organization?

If Dana is at all serious about not wanting to make money off of fighters who should hang ‘em up, I doubt we will see Andrei Arlovski back in the UFC. I think the scrambled eggs I had for breakfast are sturdier than AA’s jaw these days.

This is great for Griggs, he has looked great in his SF fights and being a underdog all 3 times I think. Would like to see Chad get the winner of Struve vs Herman to start with.
