Rising heavyweight star Chad Griggs, and former Strikeforce fighter, has a date and opponent officially set for his UFC debut after the fight promotion announced a match-up between Griggs and Travis Browne on March 24 at UFC 145.
“The Grave Digger” defeated Bobby Lashley, Gianpiero Villante, and Valentijn Overeem in his three Strikeforce bouts. It was announced that the Strikeforce heavyweight division would be absorbed by the UFC, and the 11-1 Griggs was one of many originally expected to be brought over. All eleven of his wins have involved some form of stoppage.
Browne (12-0-1) is one of the UFC’s top prospects, having defeated Stefan Struve and Rob Broughton this past year. His lone non-win came courtesy of a forgettable draw with Cheick Kongo in 2010.
UFC 145 will take place inside the Bell Centre in Montreal, Ontario, Canada. It will mark the fifth UFC event to be held inside the arena. The only other announced fight on the card will pit 22-year old phenom Rory MacDonald against surging Brit Che Mills.
