The upcoming Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine card continues to grow as Strikeforce has added a lightweight bout between Bobby Green and Alonzo Martinez to the nights preliminary card. For the first time ever, the Strikeforce prelims will air in their entirety on Showtime Extreme prior to the main card on Showtime.
The bout was confirmed by Strikeforce officials.
A former King of the Cage lightweight champion, Green has posted back-to-back wins in Strikeforce against Charon Spain and J.P. Reese, defeating both men by submission. He made his promotional debut on the preliminary card of Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson, dropping a Split Decision to highly-touted competitor Gesias Cavalcante. “King” has finished fifteen of the seventeen opponents he’s beaten.
Meanwhile, the veteran of over 50 fights, Martinez, will be making his Strikeforce debut when he squares off against Green in January. “Zo Diddy” has won eight of his last nine bouts and most recently fought on December 12, finishing Mario Ramos in just twenty seconds due to a verbal submission. The Nebraska native is a submission specialist, having won 21 of 35 bouts by way of tap out.
Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine is scheduled for January 7 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The night will be headlined by a middleweight title fight as champion Luke Rockhold makes his first title defense against veteran Keith Jardine.
