Just over a month away, the UFC 143: Condit vs. Diaz continues to grow as the organization recently added a middleweight bout between former Ultimate Fighter 3 finalist Ed Herman and the undefeated Clifford Starks. The contest is expected to be part of the nights preliminary card, scheduled to air on FuelTV.
The fight has been confirmed by UFC officials.
Herman returned from a nearly 22-month layoff due to ACL and meniscus surgery this past June when he defeated Tim Credeur in just 48 seconds. Riding the momentum of the victory and not wanting to stay out of the cage for a long period of time, Herman took on Kyle Noke two months later. He defeated the Australian with a first round heel hook. That win pushed the Oregon native’s record in the UFC to 6-5 and 19-7 overall.
Starks made his UFC debut at UFC 137, defeating fellow UFC newcomer Dustin Jacoby by unanimous decision. A Division 1 wrestler at Arizona State, where he was teammates with UFC heavyweight Cain Velasquez, Starks has yet to taste defeat in eight career bouts.
UFC 143 is scheduled for February 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The night will be headlined by a welterweight interim title fight between former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz and former WEC welterweight title-holder Carlos Condit.
