Dustin Poirier awaits his third opponent for UFC 143

It would seem that the MMA Gods do not want Dustin Poirier to compete at UFC 143, as his second scheduled opponent has fallen during training and has withdrawn from the event as a result.

The UFC recently announced Ricardo Lamas was injured and will not be able to compete at at the show scheduled for February 4 from Las Vegas, Nevada. Originally Poirier was set to meet Erik Koch on the card but watched him pull out due to injury as well.

Lamas’ injury was not made known to the public, though it was enough to keep him from making his third appearance inside the Octagon. Lamas is 11-2 overall, including a 2-0 mark in the UFC with a November victory over Cub Swanson at UFC on FOX: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos.

For Poirier, it will be wait-and-see once again, as the 22-year-old with an 11-1 mark is forced to twiddle his thumbs while posting up patiently for another foe to appear.

UFC 143 will be highlighted by a bout between Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz to crown an interim UFC welterweight champion. Also scheduled to fight are Josh Koscheck and Mike Pierce on the main card. Poirier’s previous bouts have been set for the main PPV line-up though things could change depending on how this latest situation unfolds.
