This weekend’s Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine card is complete once again as Estevan Payan has stepped up to take on Alonzo Martinez, replacing the injured Bobby Green. The bout will remain on the preliminary card of the event, which is scheduled to air on ShowtimeExtreme.
Strikeforce officials have confirmed the new bout.
Payan is unbeaten in his last six fights and has finished his last three opponents via (T)KO. “El Terrible” was a competitor in the first season of the Bellator featherweight tournament, losing in the second round to Yahir Reyes after defeating Luis Palomino in the opening round to advance.
Martinez also competed in the first season of Bellator as part of the lightweight tournament field. He was knocked off in the first round by eventual finalist Toby Imada. “Zo Diddy” has won eight of his last nine contests and has 35 vitories overall, with 21 coming by way of submission.
The show is scheduled for January 7 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by a Strikeforce middleweight title bout as champion Luke Rockhold defends his title against UFC veteran Keith Jardine.
