Ultimate Fighter 12 winner Jonathan Brookins will look to bounce back from a loss in his most recent outing when he returns to the Octagon next month against submission specialist Vagner Rocha on February 15 as part of UFC on Fuel 1. Like Brookins, Rocha is only 1-1 in the UFC and needs the win to solidify his spot on the organization’s roster.
The match-up was announced earlier today by the UFC.
Rocha was originally scheduled to face Mike Brown in a few weeks on FX but saw the bout get scratched from the card when Brown went down with a knee injury. The 29-year old grappler holds an overall record of 7-2 with five submissions including a second round Rear-Naked Choke of Brookins’ TUF 12 cast-mate Cody McKenzie at UFN 25.
Comparably, the 12-4 Brookins had a four-fight winning streak snapped by Erik Koch at the same event. His most notable victories to date involve success against the likes of Luis Palomino and Yves Jabouin.
UFC on Fuel 1 is scheduled to take place in Omaha, Nebraska and features a main event between welterweights Jake Ellenberger-Diego Sanchez.
