This weekend’s UFC lineup has undergone a minor change after the withdrawal of light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado, an 18-4 competitor who had been set to face unbeaten newcomer Caio Magalhaes on the undercard portion of UFC 142: Aldo vs. Mendes. Based on the short amount of time involved between Maldonado’s removal from the lineup a replacement will not be sought meaning the event will now only feature ten fights.
News of the bout’s status was confirmed by the UFC.
Maldonado made a name for himself in the Octagon this past June when he went toe-to-toe with Kyle Kingsbury at the Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale in what was a “Fight of the Night” performance. The 31-year old is 11-1 in his last twelve bouts including a knockout of James McSweeney a little over a year ago.
Among the remaining bouts at UFC 142 are of course the headliner between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and top challenger Chad Mendes, as well as Anthony Johnson vs. Vitor Belfort, Edson Barboza vs. Terry Etim, and Sam Stout vs. Thiago Tavares.
