Luke Rockhold: “This thing is here to stay. I’m not letting it go.”

Strikeforce middleweight champ Luke Rockhold successfully defended his title for the first time this past weekend against UFC veteran Keith Jardine. Now, Rockhold has plans to climb his way up the MMA ladder in his division.

Rockhold scored with several quick and effective strikes before dropping “The Dean of Mean” for good early in the fight during the main event of the Showtime-televised Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine card from Las Vegas.

“This thing is here to stay. I’m not letting it go,” said Rockhold of his title in an interview with Strikeforce’s Heidi Androl following the event.

As for his next competitor, Rockhold reiterated what he said inside the cage following the win, saying, “The best is the best. The UFC owns both organizations, and they say they want to do huge things for Strikeforce. So, load up this year, bring over a top contender (from the UFC).”

Excellent work Rockhold-You and Mo are keeping SF in the eyes and ears of the MMA world by promoting yourselves and speaking your mind-Even if the promotion and announcers are becoming comical at best

As for the next challenger, there are none. Souza, Kennedy and Rockhold are it. Sorry Lawler but you are not a contender at the mo. The division showed real promise and it could have consisted of Hendo, Shields, Souza, Mayhem, Lawler, Manhoef, Kennedy, Cung Le, Rockhold and been so much more of a draw for young up and comers but it didnt turn out that way I think fighters wont see it as a viable option or a stepping stone, just an org to get stuck in and prevented from persuing your dreams of fighting the best.

between Souza and Kennedy, that could very well hold SF over for the year — provided no one gets hurts. Then, if Lawler pulls off another convincing win or two, they could throw him in there, provided they haven’t built anyone else up.

I’m more worried about the show production than the divisions right now. If SF runs more events like this one, in terms of whack judging / reffing / commentating, that will sink them before a lack of fighters will.

And yeah, Mo, Rockhold, and Melendez are the only things keeping this promotion going IMO.
