It appears Dana White has Georgia on his mind as the UFC will apparently head to Atlanta on April 21 for UFC 146 at Philips Arena. The stadium currently plays host to the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and has a seating capacity in the 18,000 – 21,000 range depending on how the venue is set-up.
News of the event/location was revealed Tuesday evening on UFC Tonight.
The arena may also sound familiar to dedicated MMA fans who remember UFC 88: Breakthrough, also known as the lineup with Rashad Evans’ upset knockout of Chuck Liddell. Other notable match-ups on that card included Rich Franklin vs. Matt Hamill, Martin Kampmann vs. Nate Marquardt, and Rousimar Palhares vs. Dan Henderson.
No bouts were mentioned in relation to UFC 146 and little other information was provided though it is expected to be a PPV show with preliminary pairings on FX or Fuel TV.
