Rumored bout between Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva not happening after all

While Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva will compete in the Octagon sometime in early 2012 it apparently won’t be against each other. The rumored April bout between the former UFC heavyweight champ and former Strikeforce star turned out to be just that; a rumor. However, “Bigfoot” is still scheduled to make his UFC debut in April but his opponent has yet to be determined.

Silva will be looking to rebound from a loss to Daniel Cormier, wa teammate of Velasquez’s at American Kickboxing Academy, when he finally steps foot in the infamous eight-sided cage. The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak for the former EliteXC heavyweight title-holder including victories over Andrei Arlovski, Mike Kyle, and Fedor Emelianenko.

News of the contest being off was first reported by

Velasquez will also try and get the taste of defeat out of is mouth when he returns after losing his heavyweight strap in a little over a minutes to Junior dos Santos this past November.

Big foot is a novelty that may draw casual fans attention and Zuffa will probably want to give him a winnable fight and then feed him to the uppercrust… can he hang? yeah… is he top 5 in the UFC HWs or ever will be nah I doubt it… is there some odd chance he could challenge for a title with 2 or 3 wins?… yeah sure its a shallow weight class and like I said he’s a novelty…he’s a big bastard and he beat Fedor so it’s a sellable match up for any contender or champ…

Everybody forgets but before that Fedor win he got lit up by a LHW, sure he turned it around and won the fight but he still got lit up by a LHW…Kyle nearly finished him.

Everybody forgets that before the Bigfoot fight, Kyle had 12 KO/TKOs in 18 wins and 8 of them were against HW’s. Sorry Rece, I just hate that argument. As if getting rocked by Mike Kyle is some kind of rarity.

Bigfoot also gave Werdum all he could handle (much more than Overeem did) and, even though he was only given a %5 chance (Brendhan), was the first to truly destroy Fedor. I still have him in the HW top ten and think he could take out most of the guys on the UFC roster. If the UFC wants to give him a “winnable’ fight, he’ll probably face someone like Struve or Schaub.

Yeah, Cain vs. Mir would not be competitive.

But Mir vs. Big Foot sounds about right.
