Kendall Grove outpoints “Minowaman” in front of fellow Hawaiians

Tonight the beautiful shores of Hawaii welcomed the latest offering from the revamped ProElite promotion, a card headlined by Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Kendall Grove looking to build off the success of his opening round submission of Joe Riggs by beating Japanese legend Ikuhisa Minowa.

Grove did just that, controlling Minowa from start to finish to pick up the decision victory. Prior to the loss “Minowaman” had found success in his last five fights, owning 4X as many wins as the 13-9 Grove does.

The lineup also featured a bout between two of the finest female competitors in MMA as unbeaten Olympian Sara McMann faced seasoned grappler Hitomi Akano. McMann looked sharp throughout, using her superior power and takedowns to come away with a sweep on the judges’ scorecards.

Japan needs a real wrestling program. I think one of the other issues is the cultural bias against cutting weight; I assume a lot of that is rooted in the martial arts culture — and the belief that size does not matter.
