During the UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit post-fight press conference Saturday night, Josh Koscheck announced his days as a member of American Kickboxing Academy are over, opting to train at his self-run facility in Fresno, California going forward.
“(It) was a tough camp knowing that this was my last camp there,” Koscheck said, opting not to detail his departure from AKA.
Now, with his affiliation with the San Jose gym no longer keeping a Koscheck-Jon Fitch bout from happening, at least as far as them being teammates, it may be possible fans see the two meet inside the Octagon down the road.
UFC President Dana White told Koscheck at the post-fight press conference, “Now I’m doing the Jon Fitch fight,” (thanks to MMAjunkie). White said Koscheck replied back, “Good luck with that,” though it appeared White was semi-joking and explained he would never make the match-up just to make it.
Koscheck earned his second straight win at UFC 143 since a decision loss to Georges St. Pierre by scoring a closely contested decision victory over Mike Pierce. The 34-year old landed more takedowns than Pierce in earning the judges’ nod. He is now 5-1 in his last six and hinted at being ready to face Carlos Condit – the new interim UFC welterweight champ – if he decides to take a fight before unifying the titles with St. Pierre.
