UPDATE: Nick Diaz included on list of UFC 143 medical suspensions

This past Saturday’s UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit event was filled with wild brawls as well as bone-crushing submissions, and the casualty count on the list of medical suspensions shows just that. A total of fifteen fighters have received some kind of mandatory vacation including main event winner and new interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit.

Condit, who defeated Nick Diaz via Unanimous Decision, is suspended until early March with no contact for a few weeks due to a laceration on his right cheek.

Word of his condition was released on Monday by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

UPDATE: Also confirmed, Five Ounces of Pain spoke to NSAC executive Keith Kizer to inquire about Diaz’s status after the welterweight suffered clear damage in the bout but was not mentioned in the commission’s original report. Kizer explained, “For five round fights athletes get a minimum 20-day ‘mandatory waiting period’ so Mr. Diaz has that type of ‘medical suspension’.” However, with Diaz still sticking to his “retirement” it may be a moot point as is.

Both co-headliners Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson were hit with some time off, with Nelson’s taking him out until April.

Clifford Starks, Ed Herman, Edwin Figueroa, Matt Riddle, Henry Martinez, and Michael Kuiper are all on the shelf until August, but could be cleared earlier by a doctor.
