Josh Koscheck-Johny Hendricks added to UFC on FOX 3

The UFC has set up a key welterweight contest with Josh Koscheck taking on Johny Hendricks at UFC on FOX 3.

Koscheck got by Mike Pierce at UFC 143 by the skin of his teeth after earning a knockout victory against Matt Hughes late in 2011. “Kos” is a former #1 contender to the UFC title, sporting a career record of 17-5 with fifteen of those wins coming in the UFC.

Meanwhile, Hendricks (12-1) scored the biggest win of his career in his last outing by dropping Jon Fitch in twelve seconds at UFC 141. Fitch is a training partner of Koscheck’s and a good friend, adding a bit of extra intrigue into the pairing. The former decorated wrestler picked up his third straight win with the performance.

UFC on FOX 3 is set to go down place May 5 from the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The main event will feature Jim Miller and Nate Diaz with Koscheck-Hendricks likely serving as the co-headliner.

Kos should take this as long as every time Johny comes forward he runs like hell. If he can be technical and pass his complete avoidence of a any kind of exchange off as a gameplan he should gain the support of the judges and anyone who hates Hendricks. However if he tries to fight Hendricks, he may have to use his skill and fighting ability to get the win. Im not sure if Kos will want to take the risk of participating in a fight so he may choose to avoid one at all costs by being technical and running away.

LOL- Hey LOGIC, you are speaking in a foreign tongue to these people! They don’t understand when you use words like “running”. You have to use words like “evading” or “most brilliant gameplan in the history of MMA”! LMAO

Right now Rece is thinking, “what do you mean THESE PEOPLE!?” LOL

Was reading this on another site and everyone was talking about Miller/Diaz headlining and I swear was thinking of two completely different Miller/Diaz. :(
As for this fight, I think it could go either way.
Kos needs to really watch that uppercut from Hendricks. He’s gonna need to avoid the clinch where Hendricks fires those things off like a damn piston and try to keep things at a distance. Against Pierce, Josh showed a really good 1-2 when he wasn’t just holding his fingers out in front of him. If Josh can get him down, he needs to stay on top and work give him a good Fitching.
Hendricks needs to close the distance and work those short punches. Kos has been KO’d by an uppercut before and Johny has dynamite in those hands. I think his best bet is to push Kos against the cage and work the dirty boxing, ala Pierce.
Both fighters are NCAA Div 1 champs, and I think it’s the first time in the UFC that Div 1 champs have met. I’m not sure how much their wrestling in gonna cancel each other out, but I’d give the slight edge to Josh simply because of experience in the cage. As Rashad just showed, and GSP has always shown, better wrestling credentials don’t make you a better MMA wrestler. That said, I see this fight be won on the feet.
I’m not sold on Hendricks ground game off his back but he’s got the much tougher stand up, so I’m gonna pick Hendricks by UD.

You may be right MCM I can’t think of any… the only thing close that comes to mind is I think Brock vs Carwin was a div 1 champ vs a div 2 champ …

  • I love this fight…Kos is going to get knocked out in 20 seconds or less if he doesnt immediately start shooting that power double from the outside to force clinches and scrambles. Fitch’s chin hasnt been cracked since 02….Kos was ko’d by P Thiago which led to everyone thinking that guy was an actual contender AND he was almost KO’d by Drew Fickett awhile back. Big Rig just might breeze right through this.
