Gina Carano’s future in fighting made more hazy after accepting new film role

Gina Carano’s MMA career appears to slowly be coming to an end, as the popular female fighter has been cast as the lead in an upcoming film called In The Blood.

Carano has not competed inside the cage since a 2009 loss to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos, instead focusing her attention on her acting career.

In The Blood will be directed by John Stockwell and photography for the film is expected to begin later this year. The basis to the movie is similar to the Liam Neeson project Taken with Carano playing the role of a wife whose husband goes missing. She goes after the kidnappers on her own, clearly meaning she has some sort of background outside of the standard soccer-mom’s.

“This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past,” said Stockwell, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

No other casting information was made available.

Carano was the star of the recently-released Haywire, a film seeing her stock in Hollywood take off thanks to solid reviews about her action-based abilities. The movie has not been as successful at the box office but that hasn’t taken the shine off Carano’s star.

This is a shock to absolutely no one. Gina has had zero interest in fighting since Cyborg smashed her, and seemingly had waning interest prior considering she must have been taking weight cutting advice from Anthony Johnson and Gabe Rudiger.

For the record: I wish Gina all the best in Hollywood, but can we stop humouring this delusion that she’s ever going to come back to MMA?

Well, in your defense ufuk, she’s not a fighter, so you’re off the hook.
