Jeremy Stephens replaces Yves Edwards in UFC on Fuel 3 bout against Donald Cerrone

An injury to Yves Edwards has knocked him out of a planned bout with Donald Cerrone for May 15 at UFC on Fuel 3. However, it looks like the quality of the fight won’t dip much as stand-up stylist Jeremy Stephens has apparently agreed to take Edwards’ place. Stephens is one of the lightweight division’s hardest hitters with fourteen of his twenty total wins coming by way of a strike-based stoppage.

News of the Edwards’ replacement was first reported by MMAJunkie with other outlets having since confirmed the change.

Stephens (20-7) hasn’t fought since losing a match-up with Anthony Pettis late in 2011. The heavy-handed Californian is 4-2 in his last six bouts inside the UFC with both defeats involving a Split Decision.

Like Stephens, Cerrone (17-4) also had a winning streak snapped in his last fight after coming up short against Nate Diaz at UFC 141.

The show takes place from the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia and is expected to feature Dustin Poirier attempting to lay claim to featherweight contendership by taking out Chan Sung Jung. “Cowboy” and Stephens will likely serve on the night’s main card, which will be televised by Fuel TV.

Either Stephens wins by knock out or cowboy wins by “condit back pedal”…. There’s NO way cowboy goes toe to toe with JS after the Nate Diaz loss. Sounds good on paper but will likely be a “greg Jackson game planned” turd… Go STEPHENS!

With 13 of his 17 wins by Sub, I doubt he’s looking to go toe to toe with Stephens.
Great substitute and it’s gonna be a hell of a first round, before Cowboy gets rocked and then slaps on a triangle coke for the win.

This is for sure a better fight as Yves is on the tail end of a great career and Stephens is in his prime. I completly agree with MCM here as soon as Cowboy tastes the power he tries for a sub which is Stephens’ weakness.
