Roy Nelson-Antonio Silva added to UFC 146 lineup

A heavyweight showdown between Roy Nelson and Antonio Silva has been confirmed by UFC officials for UFC 146, a show set to take place May 26 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Nelson (16-7) recently announced plans to show he could drop down to light heavyweight if need be through a campaign on Facebook, but those plans will likely be put on hold so “Big Country” can focus on the match up with Silva (16-3).

“Bigfoot” will be making his debut in the UFC after signing a contract with them late last year. He previously competed in Strikeforce where he came up short against Daniel Cormier in the semifinal round of the promotion’s ongoing Grand Prix.

“Big Country” is also coming off a defeat with Fabricio Werdum, another former Strikeforce heavyweight, outpointing him earlier this year. Nelson is just 1-3 in his last four fights with the defeats coming against Werdum, Frank Mir, and divisional champ Junior dos Santos.

UFC 146 will feature a main event title-fight between Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem. Other bouts include Dan Hardy-Duane Ludwig and Jason Miller-CB Dollaway.

Good match up. Hard to pick a clear winner but, I’ll go with Big Country cause he has a better and smaller chin.

Roy is gonna break his hand throwing one of those over hand rights off of that enormous chin.

isnt this something like the fifth heavyweight fight announced for 146?
thats seems like too many, although at least they are all mostly top 10 match ups so we shouldnt see the usual fat gas fests that comes with so many of the heavyweight fights these days

Roy Nelson vs top 20s =0-6.
News flash! Roy is a fat out of shape guy who got his ass handed to him by Werdum in a stand up fight. Werdums stand up is his weakness. Roy lost a stand up fight with Monson. Roy is a B grade fighter with personality. I am thinking Roy will be 1-4 from his last 5 after this fight and should be dropped but his personality may save him. Big Foot is better at everything but Roy could get lucky.

Roy Nelson lost to Rothwell and Werdum in stand up. Arlovski beat those two and Nelson in stand up. Big Foot beat Arlovski and Werdum in stand up. Nelson will have to land a big shot. I give Nelson a 10% chance and thats generous.

Silva did get KO’d by Cormier who, although still untested somewhat, doesnt seem to have the greateset of standup skills. if he can knock out Silva, Roy may be able to

but i do agree, fat bloke, sort it out

6 of Cormiers 9 wins have come via stoppages due to punches. His stand up is not brilliant but its pretty good and getting better.
Nelsons stand up is bad, seriously bad. He has taken out a couple of guys with his strikes but honestly, most of the time he takes 5 to deliver 1. He has been outstruck by Werdum, Mir, Monson, Rothwell, Arlovski and destroyed by JDS. He hasnt subbed anyone for ages and nobody worth mentioning.
Im being harsh but the guy isnt very good at all. I rank him around 25 to 30. He shouldnt be in elite comp. His biggest win was over Crocop arguably but Crocop hadnt beaten a top fighter for 5 years and had only managed 5 wins from his final 12 fights and those wins were over guys like Al Turk, Perosh, Sanchez and Hong man. The UFC is not the place for him. Perhaps fighting James Thompson in the Ukraine is more his thing.

LOGIC- so…you’re saying you Don’t think Roy will win this?

I really wish they wouldn’t have made this fight. I like both guys and think they’re both good for the UFC.
The problem is, if Roy wins, Bigfoot looks like less than top 10 competition and gets dropped back to the middle of the HW division. Which sucks, cause I think he can be one of the stars at HW.
If Bigfoot wins, Roy looks at possibly getting cut. Which sucks (for everyone but LOGIC) cause he’s got a huge fan base and is extremely entertaining to watch.
I would have rather seen Bigfoot face Carwin and Roy drop down to face someone like Bonnar or stay at HW and face Kongo.
