Dana White certain Dan Henderson will wait for a title-shot before fighting again

For UFC light heavyweight Dan Henderson it’s apparently all about competing for gold.

The 41-year old, who was last seen defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua last year, is said to have decided his next fight will be for either the UFC light heavyweight or middleweight belt but nothing less.

However, both those titles are currently tied up as Jon Jones will defend the light heavyweight strap against Rashad Evans next month, while middleweight champion Anderson Silva is scheduled to face Chael Sonnen later this summer.

“He wants a title fight,” said UFC President Dana White during the UFC on FOX 3 press conference earlier this week. “He either wants Anderson Silva or whoever has the belt at 185, or the winner of Evans and Jones.”

White added that “Hendo” is not concerned with who has the title – just that he competes for one, saying, “Dan doesn’t seem too picky.”

Henderson has yet to wear UFC gold, though has held championships for PRIDE and Strikeforce. The 29-8 legend has not addressed White’s assessment since it was made though in recent weeks he has said he wanted to fight in the next few months.

I dont think he wins against Silva, Jones or Evans, but I feel he would tear Sonnen up.

Aren’t Chael and Hendo training partners and co-owners of Team Quest? I wonder if they’d fight even fight each other.

I also understand Hendo wanting to wait. Pettis and Jim Miller both took fights instead of waiting and both lost and had to work their way back up with. With the Jones/Rashad fight, if either gets injured he’ll be the first call. And if it ends with the winner taking little damage, he’s only 3 months out from getting the title shot. With Sonnen/Silva, I think he just wants a shot at Silva again no matter what he’s telling Dana. But he knows that that fight is less likely to happen than at LHW fight.

Dan has UFC gold… the kind they won’t hand out anymore, and that he can’t lose in a fight. He won UFC 17 as the middleweight tournament winner. It came with a belt – he frequently gets photographed with it along with the Pride belts.

I think he beats A.Silva but wont fight Sonnen and would lose to Rashad and Jones.
I think the UFC should say “you want the belt, you fight for the shot”. The only thing is, who does he fight? Who else deserves to be in a #1 contender fight? Bader? Gustaffson if he wins perhaps but the timing is wrong.
Perhaps Hendo and Condit could fight each other.

A lot of people seem to want Hendo vs Machida, and as much as I love Machida (hes my fav fighter) I don’t think he deserves a num 1 contender shot right now.
