Chael Sonnen calls Quinton Jackson a “crybaby” but still likes him

When you give Chael Sonnen an open mic and allow him to speak his mind you better believe he is going to do just that.

While a guest on last night’s episode of MMA Uncensored, Sonnen was asked his opinion on a number of subjects. One of them included Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, specifically in terms of how the former UFC champion has been going about trying to get out of his contract.

“I like him. Look, he’s a crybaby, but I find it interesting,” said Sonnen. “I like it when he goes on his campaigns about entitlement and how he should be given easy fights. A lot of things are expected of him and he’s not quite delivering.”

Jackson, you might remember, missed weight for his bout with Ryan Bader in the co-main event of UFC 144: Edgar vs. Henderson last month in Japan. He quickly let it be known a knee injury caused him to miss several days of training, not allowing him to get in the kind of shape he needed and thus he couldn’t cut the necessary weight.

In more recent days, Jackson has tried to push his way out of competing in the final fight on his UFC contract. Instead, it was announced “Rampage” would meet Mauricio “Shogun” Rua later this year, though, before a date could be set, Jackson remarked he would undergo double-knee surgery and be out for an extended amount of time.

When the 33-year old caught wind of Sonnen’s comments, Jackson addressed them on Twitter, writing, “I’ll walk up to him and smack him like a bitch on camera for the whole (world) to see.”

Sonnen is rumored to be fighting Anderson Silva for the UFC middleweight title later this year in Brazil, though the outspoken 185er reiterated he still hasn’t signed a bout agreement and that nothing official is in place.

Chael “likes” Rampage. Great. You know what Chael really likes? The sound of his own nasally voice, as he continues to piggyback off other more accomplished fighters in order to draw attention to himself. And I’ll be g-damned if it hasn’t worked, as people are apparently still fascinated by this guy’s incoherent & often disrespectful rambling towards other mixed martial artists.

A nearly-over-the-hill Anderson will toy with Chael in the rematch, sending him back into obscurity. But Chael will collect the fat paycheck he’s been after all along, and his act has worked so well he might be able to parlay it into a post-fighting career as a TV talking head.

So Rampage now wants to smack Chael, Joe Silva, Rich Franklin, and I forgetting anyone? He’s getting quite a list of people he supposedly will smack.

And while I may agree with you Richard, I got to ask, did Chael kill your dog or something?

Not only did Chael kill my dog but he also made my wife cook it up for him.

I know Chael shouldn’t bother me as much as he does. Part of me is entertained by his shtick. And I get that it’s all in fun…or at least mostly. I guess it’s the fact he’s doing so in a sport that is largely rooted in integrity & honor, where Chael rates about a negative 3 on a scale of 1-10. He continually piggybacks off more accomplished fighters with disrespectful remarks on both a personal & professional level, and he himself was suspended for fighting with elevated testosterone in the fight that really put him on the map. Yeah he’s good at putting on an act, but to me it goes well beyond that. With or without the act, he’s a phony. Thru 30 pro fights his best win was Trevor Prangley. Then he apparently found the fountain of TRT. Either way, Anderson will smash him in the rematch & then I’d like to think the majority of fans will see him for the fraud he is. I’m just surprised/annoyed he’s been able to dupe as many people along the way as he has.

But yes, I get more bothered by the topic of *Chael* than I should. It’s not just him, but the combination of the media & fan reaction and it just all adds up to annoy me. There aren’t too many guys in sports that do that–hell, at the end of the day it’s purely for entertainment purposes–but Chael manages to do it. Which, honor be damned, I’m sure makes him really proud.

  • Rich I agree with everything you said about chael but how in the hell do you justify calling the greatest champion in MMA history near over the hill while he destroys every single person put in front of him not named Chael and still submits him?
Or are you just referring to him being near 40? Cuz if so….that’s fair.
