Dan Miller moving to welterweight to face Ricardo Funch in June

The UFC welterweight division will get another dose of depth in the coming months based on respected competitor Dan Miller’s recent decision to drop down from 185 pounds to compete alongside the likes of fellow former middleweights Martin Kampmann, Yoshihiro Akiyama, and Demian Maia. Miller’s test inside the Octagon as a 170-pounder will come this summer when he faces Ricardo Funch at UFC on FX 4.

UFC officials have confirmed the June 22 match-up.

Miller, whose New Jersey roots will no doubt lead to a lot of love from the Atlantic City crowd, has only gone 5-5 in the UFC but never fails to entertain based on a hard-nosed style and granite chin. He was last seen taking on Rousimar Palhares this past August in one of the year’s more memorable match-ups, focusing on family issues since the bout.

While Miller will be looking to snap a two-fight losing streak in their bout, Funch is still seeking his first victory as a member of the UFC’s roster. The 31-year old holds an overall record of 8-3 with the trio of stumbles all occurring inside the infamous eight-sided cage.

UFC on FX 4 is shaping up to be a solid card with a headliner between lightweights Clay Guida-Gray Maynard as well as in-ring appearances from Rick Story and Brian Ebersole.

Miller seems better suited for 185 body wise, but he is a great addition to any weight class so I will be looking forward to this fight.
