Eric Prindle gets title-shot after Thiago Santos fails to make heavyweight limit for Bellator 62 headliner

For the second time in as many weeks a bout between Bellator Season 5 heavyweight tournament finalists Thiago Santos and Eric Prindle was scratched from a card’s headlining slot due to one of the involved fighters’ inability to compete. While last week’s cancellation involved Prindle suffering from an undisclosed illness, it appears his health was a moot point based on his Brazilian adversary’s inability to come in at 265 pounds for their pairing.

Santos stepped on the scale Thursday at 277.75 pounds, well north of the division’s limit. As a result Prindle was awarded the Season 5 crown including the attached money and crack at champion Cole Konrad. Today’s events mark the end of an overall ugly saga kicked off, literally, when Santos landed a blatant low blow on Prindle in their original meeting rendering Prindle unable to continue.

Fortunately, the other eight individuals highlighting the card as part of the Season 6 lightweight tourney avoided any similar issues with all hitting their required marks.

The main card for Bellator 62 starts at 8:00 PM EST on MTV 2 with prelims streaming on Spike.com in the preceding hours.

thats fucking crazy, and such a waste. Santos is a real legit prospect, but i guess he doesnt give much of a shit about being in shape. They said last week that Santos was walking around at 300lb the day of the weigh in, which never happened cos of the illness. thats just fucking dumb, i cant even remember the last time i heard of a HW fucking up the cut
he more than likely could have walked this fight as well, and gone on to beat Conrad.
such a fucking waste. Bellator should stay away from HW tournies, they are a waste of time and money.
seriously who wants to see Conrad vs Prindle? you cant sell that shit. a dull as fuck wrestler vs a big bloke who can punch.
more pissed at this than i have been about any fighter in a long time
plus the mother fucker ruined some of my accumulator bets

I hope that Santos has a very good reason for missing out on a 100 thousand dollar paycheck, I am not saying he would have won for sure but just the chance at it you would think this guy would train his ass of, especially after having to wait so long for the matchup.

It’s not $100k to win the fight, as far as I understand.

It’s 10k for the quarter finals (10k to show, and 10k to win), 15k to show and 15k to win in the semis, and the finals are 25k to show and 25k to win.

Either way, he’s a putz and left all-but-guaranteed money on the table.
