Surprising few, featherweight Mackens Semerzier has been released by the UFC after an opening round submission loss to Daniel Pineda earlier this month. The defeat was the fourth for the 31-year old in his last five fights including three straight in WEC.
Semerzier confirmed his status in a text message to Canadian outlet The Score, writing, “I gotta get hot again and earn my spot again.”
Despite his overall mark, Semerzier certainly showed flashes of brilliance during his run under the Zuffa banner as evident in victories over Alex Caceres and Wagnney Fabiano. The 6-4 “Mack da Menace” started his career out with a 5-0 record and has finished all of the opponents he’s beaten.
Given his weight class it is likely Semerzier will be relegated to the regional scene until racking up some consecutive wins with the possibility of Bellator further boosting its featherweight ranks certainly out there as well.
