Fedor Emelianenko tests his skills in a Sumo match on Japanese game show

Fedor Emelianenko remains a larger-than-life figure around the world, especially in Japan where he came to fame based on his success under the PRIDE banner. More recently, Emelianenko snapped a three-fight losing streak by defeating Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii in back-to-back fights.

However, “The Last Emperor” appears to be back to his losing ways…sort of.

While making an appearance on a Japanese game show, Emelianenko competed against Shinichi Suzukawa in a Sumo match and showed he’s better off sticking with MMA. Suzukawa is a retired Sumo fighter from Japan.

Watch the video below while doing your best to remember when we lived in a world where many considered Emelianenko the greatest MMA fighter of all time:

Just think in an alternate universe an M-1 free Fedor could be training and doing press junkettes for UFC 146: The Heavyweights instead of doing celebrity sumo in Japan…

    P.S.
At the end of the video when they show the sumo tourney bracket I think I see headshots of Vader and Bob Sapp… more larger then life figures in Japan.

  • That is Vader! The greatest big man in sports entertainment history ever.

Fedor looks like he got rocked pretty bad by that shove….and he wants to fight Cain? That’d be turrible. turrible turrible turrible

Recent, exactly right, an -M1- Free Fedor. And people still blame the UFC for him not ending up fighting the best in the UFC.

I don’t see a point in a Fedor run in the UFC. I mean, I would watch, but the mystique is gone. It will be one of those great “what if” debates that never goes away. All the respect in the world to Fedor for what he’s done, but the lightning got out of the bottle.

Look at the traditional haters all line up. Pffft none of you have anything worth listening to on this subject. I mean “why have Fedor in the UFC”. There are guys in the UFC that suck you clown. I mean you have guys like Kimbo, Housten, former boxers that are now shit and fat, guys that dont rank and never will rank and the haters all line up and bitch becuz they are easily lead and dont think . If you actually used your brains (some of you dont have any and I apologise) you would love to have Fedor compete in the UFC. Why not? Becuz his mistique is gone? WTF does that have to do with anything?
Then there is those that blame M1. To which I say well thats funny becuz M1 works with dozens of other MMA organisations. Affliction, Bellator, SF, Pride, Bodog, Dream and many others had good relationships with M1 and Fedor. However nobody has a good relationship with ZUFFA. Think about it.

Kimbo and Houston are no longer with the UFC, so where’s your point there? Also Affliction, Pride, Bodog, all closed down. SF no longer co-promotes.

  • I agree that Fedor like all the greatest SHOULD fight a time or two in the octagon. However your point about m1 not being the problem is asinine for one reason alone. M1 helped many struggling orgs get their footing(this is overly true in Affliction, Bodog, and SF) now the only problem with THAT logic is that 2 of those orgs went Belly up due to Fedor’s salary being a huge divit in the revenue that none of them were making.
The UFC doesnt need m1’s help and certainly doesnt need it to take a fighter who at one time was the greatest HW walkin the planet but has since faded into a can crusher and pay him the kind of money that a GSP, an Anderson Silva, a Jon Jones or a Brock Lesnar is worth, simply because most newer/casual fans know Fedor as nothing but a has been can crusher…is that true? No…..well…… a little. Fedor lost 3 times in a row, once to a HW who is looking his best now, so we can disregard that as Fedor getting bested by a lesser opponent(Werdum) to a HW who has NEVER EVER beaten a top tier HW and was recently knocked unconcious by a guy who should be fighting at 205, and debatebly the greatest fighter of all time, so no shame in that.

However since then, he won a decision over a washup who was never very good to begin with in Monson, and Ishii who is a cans can. He’s a shell of his former self and while I’ll always appreciate what he did for the sport he needs to walk away like Liddel did, before he becomes another joke like Ken Shamrock.

All it takes is one comment not worshiping at the altar of Fedor and MMA logic comes roaring out with a huge wall of text, capital letters and misspelled words.
