Melvin Guillard is heading to UFC 148 for a bout with Fabricio Camoes in hopes of proving he can fend off a submission specialist rather than bow to BJJ artistry.
It was not announced where the Guillard-Camoes bout would be placed on the July 7 card, but a spot on the prelims is likely. UFC 148 already features a bantamweight title-match between Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber, along with fights such as Michael Bisping-Tim Boetsch, Rich Franklin-Cung Le, and Tito Ortiz-Forrest Griffin.
MMAWeekly was first to report the match-up.
Guillard (29-10-2) was making his way up the UFC’s lightweight ladder before running into back-to-back submission defeats at the limbs of Joe Lauzon and Jim Miller. Now, the heavy-handed fighter will look to avoid the dreaded three-fight losing streak this summer
Camoes (14-6-1) is in his second stint with the UFC, having defeated Tommy Hayden earlier this year. “Morango” has won three straight since a loss to Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 111 and owes half of his total victories to tapping opponents out.
