John Alessio steps in at UFC 145 to face Mark Bocek as injury replacement

After some public lobbying and a bit of luck, John Alessio will get a fourth chance to secure his first victory in the UFC, replacing an injured Matt Wiman and meet Mark Bocek at UFC 145: Jones vs. Evans.

The card is set to take place April 21 from Atlanta’s Philips Arena. The main event consists of Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight crown against Rashad Evans. Wiman-Bocek was originally part of the PPV card though it remains to be seen if Alessio-Bocek will remain in that spot.

Bocek confirmed the change on his Twitter account, posting, “Hey guys, my new opponent at UFC 145 is John Alessio, Wiman is out with a knee injury.”

Alessio (34-14) has lost all three of his UFC bouts, falling to Pat Miletich, Diego Sanchez, and Thiago Alves in a trio of previous bouts. Comparably, Bocek (10-4) has posted a 6-4 mark inside the Octagon but is coming off a loss to Nik Lentz. His other three UFC defeats have come at the hands of UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson, former title-holder Frankie Edgar, and Jim Miller.

Didn’t Bocek beat Lentz? I know, it was a forgetable fight. His other loss came against Mac Danzig.

John Alessio is a certified Bas Ass, and hopefully he can get that elusive UFC win.
