Bellator 64 Results: Ben Askren retains title with dominant decision performance

The second title-fight of Bellator Season 6 took place earlier tonight with welterweight champion Ben Askren holding on to his belt against Douglas Lima in the main event at Bellator 64. A former Olympic wrestler, Askren is 10-0 thus far in his MMA career due in large part to his aggressive ground-attack and ability to smother adversaries from above. The style is certainly a far cry from the 21-4 Lima who had finished eighteen of his opponents with a solid blend of striking and submissions. Unfortunately for fans of the 24-year old neither came into play other than from an “attempted” sense as Askren kept Lima on his back throughout the bulk of the five-round bout.

Joining Askren-Lima on the main card, Season 6 featherweight semifinalists Marlon Sandro and Alexandre Bezzara faced off in hopes of moving a win away from earning a title-shot, turning in a remotely entertaining effort in which Sandro came out with the Split Decision win, while a quartet of 135ers battled in the opening round of their respective field.
