Bellator cuts Alexis Vila and Masakatsu Ueda after Season 6 tournament losses

Alexis Vila and Masakatsu Ueda were both defeated in the Bellator Season 6 bantamweight tournament and now both are looking for new work, as the fight promotion released them on Monday.

Vila (11-2) is a former Olympian who was ousted from the tourney by Luis Nogueira. The 41-year-old Cuban lost in the finals of the Season 5 tournament to newly-crowned champion Eduardo Dantas, never recapturing the same lightning he unleashed on Joe Warren in one of last year’s most brutal knockouts.

Meanwhile, Ueda (15-2-2) was stopped by Travis Marx. He entered Bellator on a fight-fight winning streak and is considered to be a top-flight bantamweight.

Sherdog was the first to report the releases by Bellator. No specific reason was offered for either cut.

After KOing the FW champ and losing a close decision and another decision isn’t enough to be cut but hey that’s my opinion

i odnt think Villa really has a huge amount to offer, 41 years old, and he’s not going to improve his game any. he has neglected his wrestling to throw a left hook over and over in the hope he catches someone. doesnt deserve to get cut but there are so many better young prospects out there that he won’t be missed. and the prospects is what Bellator is all about.
More dissapointed about Ueda, i scored that fight in his favor, and it was his last shot (according to him) at the big time, wanted to see him fight again

They missed Joe Warren. Villa was just getting started and Ueda is awesome.
