Alistair Overeem’s future in the UFC remains cloudy as NSAC meeting approaches

We now know Alistair Overeem will not be fighting for the UFC heavyweight title in May against champion Junior dos Santos. However, his status with the organization in general is still unknown according to promotional head Dana White.

White first revealed Frank Mir will fight dos Santos at UFC 146 on Friday night, elaborating on the matter further during the post-event press conference last night after UFC 145 concluded.

“We were right up on deadlines for a lot of things we needed to do to promote a pay-per-view and I’m not very optimistic on Tuesday,” White said in a conversation with MMAWeekly, alluding to Overeem’s April 24 date with the NSAC. Overeem, who tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone during a pre-fight drug test, will go before the regulatory board in hopes of obtaining his fight license.

During Saturday’s PPV, the UFC promoted the Mir-Dos Santos bout pointing to the necessity of putting Mir in the bout with Overeem’s immediate future still up in the air. Some rumors have Overeem facing Cain Velasquez – the planned opponent for Mir – at the May 26 show if the Dutchman is able to gain his license on Tuesday.

Rumour has it that Overeem’s “reasonable excuse” is erectile dysfunction, and Viagra is responsible for the test. I hope Overeem arrives at the NSAC in a clown car, but this is going to be a comedy show.

If Reem gets licenced does he just get to fight Roy Nelson for shits and giggles?!? The funny thing is Roy could take insanse punushment and keep on going at his opponent, so it would be fucking hilarious if Reem unloaded the first round and a half only to gas and get subbed or tko’d by Big Country, now I’d pay to see that.
