Injuries to Gabriel Gonzaga, Evan Dunham cause changes to featured fights at UFC 146

The UFC 146 all-heavyweight PPV for May 26 has experienced plenty of change over the past month after a reshuffling of things due to Alistair Overeem‘s drug-testing issues. Now, with two injuries hitting a pair of featured fighters, it seems more changes are in order.

According to the UFC‘s website, Gabriel Gonzaga is out of a planned heavyweight battle with Roy Nelson with Dave Herman taking his place. Meanwhile, Jamie Varner, a veteran of both the UFC and WEC, returns to take the place of Evan Dunham against Edson Barboza.

Herman (21-3) is looking to rebound from a loss to Stefan Struve that snapped a three-fight win streak. Varner, on the other hand, has won his last two tilts to improve to 19-6-1 in his career. He has recently been fighting for the XFC, along with other regional promotions, since his release from the UFC.

I don’t like Varner’s chances. Barboza is just too strong for him.

This sucks, I was really looking forward to Gonzaga going up against Nelson, but Pee Wee isnt a bad replacement at all. Same for Varner.
