Thiago Alves receives Siyar Bahadurzada as new opponent at UFC 149

An injury to Yoshihiro Akiyama has forced a change in the recently-announced UFC 149 card. Instead of Akiyama taking on Thiago Alves it will be Siyar Bahadurzada filling the role at the July 21 event.

The UFC recently confirmed the change in match-up set to be featured on the main card. The show’ is headlined by Jose Aldo defending his featherweight title against Erik Koch.

Bahadurzada (21-4-1) picked up a win in his UFC debut with a devastating knockout victory over Paulo Thiago. While Bahadurzada mentioned in the post-fight interview he may have suffered a broken hand, X-rays showed everything was intact giving him the greenlight to go again.

Alves (19-9) suffered a submission loss to Martin Kampmann in his most recent bout when he shot in for a takedown and wound up getting choked out despite being ahead on the scorecards. The former #1 contender has taken out a number of respectable foes in his day including Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck.
