The UFC’s next stop on FOX grew this week when the organization announced a pair of heavyweight fights attached to the August 4 event. Most notably, Matt Mitrione will battle Rob Broughton in hopes of shaking off any lingering funk from his October loss to Cheick Kongo.
In the other bout, Philip De Fries (8-1) will face off against Oli Thompson (9-3).
Mitrione’s decision defeat to Kongo was the first stumble of his career, winning five straight scraps to open up his MMA career after joining the Ultimate Fighter 10 cast with zero bouts under his belt. Four of his victories have involved some form of strike-based stoppage including those against Kimbo Slice, Tim Hague, and Christian Morecraft.
Broughton has also struggled as of late, dropping his last two tilts after earning a win in his Octagon debut. The 29-year old Brit is 15-7 in his career with twelve finishes.
UFC on FOX 4 is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles with a middleweight match-up between Brian Stann-Hector Lombard headlining in addition to other featured bouts on FOX such as Joe Lauzon-Terry Etim, Ben Rothwell-Travis Browne, and Lyoto Machida-Ryan Bader.
