UFC names Mike Easton as Ivan Menjivar’s new opponent at UFC 148

It didn’t take long for the UFC to announce Mike Easton will take the place of Renan Barao and meet Ivan Menjivar at UFC 148.

Barao was promoted to an interim UFC bantamweight title-match with Urijah Faber at the July 7 card after champion Dominick Cruz went down with a torn ACL. The UFC announced the bout during The Ultimate Fighter 15 Friday night.

UFC officials announced news of the Menjivar-Easton bout via Twitter on Saturday night.

Menjivar (24-8) was also seen as a possible opponent for Faber after winning three of his first four UFC fights. Instead, he will draw Easton (12-1), who is on a five-fight winning streak.

The match between Menjivar and Easton will likely be part of the prelim card with the PPV portion already featuring such bouts as UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva defending his title against Chael Sonnen and Forrest Griffin vs. Tito Ortiz.

Before the line up change it feels like this was an opportunity for Menjivar and now it’s become a big opportunity for Easton, see if mini hulk can pull it off.
