Daniel Cormier, who won the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix last weekend, will be a keen observer as both a regular training partner of Velasquez and possible title-contender in the near future. Plus, with his pending arrival to the UFC, “DC” will have a great opportunity to “scout” the rest of the competition as the entire five-fight main card consists of heavyweights.
When asked to give his take on the evening’s two featured bouts by Brazilian news outlet TATAME Cormier offered up his thoughts on the road to victory in each match-up.
“Cain’s got every advantage in the fight. I expect Saturday night to be pretty successful for him,” Cormier said, undoubtedly biased given his relationship with Velasquez.
In terms of the headliner, the unbeaten Cormier explained, “I think Junior dos Santos will win that fight. Frank Mir has shown that he doesn’t do well when he’s in bad situations, and I’m pretty sure Junior will put him into bad situations.”
Cormier is scheduled to have at least one more Strikeforce bout before heading to the UFC. Prior to the tilt he is set to undergo hand surgery later this year after breaking his hand against Josh Barnett last Saturday night.
