Vitor Belfort suffers broken hand, out of UFC 147 main event with Wanderlei Silva

There will be no rematch between Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva after all, at least this summer, as Belfort has suffered a broken hand and is out of their main event meeting at UFC 147. Belfort and Silva were both coaches on TUF Brasil, making for the second such match-up to fall apart due to injury this year (with the other involving Urijah Faber-Dominick Cruz and TUF 15).

News of the situation surfaced on the Fuel TV post-show for UFC 146. A replacement for Belfort is currently being sought.

“The Phenom” owns a first round knockout victory over Silva from 1998 and “The Axe Murderer” has said many times he has wanted a rematch ever since. Belfort has already undergone surgery to repair the break. He was hoping for a big win over Silva to catapult him back into title contention in the UFC’s middleweight division.

This really wasn’t a heading fight for a PPV. The excitement factor is gone. This fight would have been better 10 years ago.

My interest in this PPV went from minimal to none.

Whaaaat? Vitor is unable to make a fight due to injuries!? Who would have seen that coming?

(this is sarcasm for those of you that didn’t get it in an earlier thread.)

Hard to market a PPV when neither guy has been a headliner for some time.

I don’t know the rest of the card but, think I will watch free prelims and catch the after show for highlights of what I didn’t want to spend $55 on.

TUF Brazil might be OK but, I’m not sure I want to spend all my time reading subtitles. Might just hit mute and listen to music and see if I can get some entertainment that way.
