Roy Nelson: “I’d like to just throw one (punch) and call it a night.”

UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson had nine previous knockouts to his credit entering UFC 146 but none so fast as the one he notched against Dave Herman in their showdown on Saturday night. “Big Country” landed a big right hand in the opening minute of the match-up with the force first spinning Herman around and then sending him down to the mat.

However, though the stoppage came just 51 seconds into the fight, the generally playful Nelson saw room for improvement when asked about the bout’s result.

“I’d like to just throw one (punch) and call it a night. If I could just go in there and throw one punch, and the guy goes down or whatever that’d be great,” said Nelson to Fuel TV before admitting, “I can live with three.”

As far as who Nelson wants to fight next now that he’s back on the winning track, the 17-7 fan-favorite avoided mentioning anyone specifically, remaining open to any challenge the UFC puts in front of him whether a newly signed opponent or longstanding veteran.

“Whoever can pass the test. Really, it doesn’t matter because really the fans are the ones that really pick the fights,” replied Nelson, elaborating on his opening statement with a tongue-in-cheek joke. “The Roy Nelson or the drug test. I like random drug tests instead of where I can like cycle off and then get on.”
