Rich Franklin meeting Wanderlei Silva in main event at UFC 147

Hopefully Rich Franklin has kept his passport up-to-date, as “Ace” has signed to face Wanderlei Silva in the main event of UFC 147 where he’ll replace Vitor Belfort who injured his hand in training and was forced to pull out. The card takes place June 23 from Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

The bout, which UFC officials confirmed will take place at 190 pounds, will be contested over five rounds though it will likely end within the allotted time period given both fighters’ styles and propensity for putting opponents away.

This will be the second meeting between Franklin (28-6) and Silva (34-11-1), as Franklin secured a decision victory back at UFC 99.

Franklin was scheduled to face Cung Le at UFC 148 in July. It remains unknown if Le will still compete on the card, and if so, who his opponent will be now.

Good pick. The last fight was close, so a rematch makes some sense. Plus, I’ve always been a Franklin fan. Other than Silva, he’s a legit threat to anybody who steps into the cage with him.

Indeed, it doesnt save the card, but it doesnt hurt anymore either.

Im rooting for Ace on this one (again).

Good save, and someone no body seemed to be talking about. But why is it being fought at 190lbs?

Maybe the catch weight is cause the last time they fought it was at 190 and that was close.

Still doesn’t make me want to spend $60 on a PPV but, best possible replacement all things considered.

Maybe the catchweight is because of a somewhat short notice for Franklin.
