Phil Davis welcoming Wagner Prado to the UFC in August after injury knocks Chad Griggs out

Chad Griggs will have to wait a few more months to make his UFC debut at light heavyweight, as an injury has knocked him out of a planned bout with Phil Davis. Instead, Davis will face newcomer Wagner Prado in his promotional unveiling at UFC on FOX 4 from Los Angeles on August 4.

Prado is an undefeated prospect who trains out of Team Nogueira. The 8-0 Brazilian has been itching to make his UFC debut for some time now after working alongside the Nogueira brothers and the other plethora of talent calling the gym home..

Meanwhile, Davis will be making his return to action after suffering his first professional loss to Rashad Evans this past February when the former Penn State University wrestling standout was beaten by decision. Prior to the stumble “Mr. Wonderful” had racked up a 9-1 mark with wins over Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Alexander Gustafsson.

MMAWeekly first reported the bout, confirming the match had been made with Prado’s management team.

From being one match from a title shot to fighting unknowns making organizational debuts. UFC must not feel he is as good as previously hyped.

No shame in losing to Rashad and if they thought he was as good as all his previous hype they would have given him someone higher up the ladder.

I like this fight. It makes a lot more sense than Davis fighting Griggs. Prada is one of THE top prospects in the LHW division. It’s no different than Werdum getting JDS or Kos getting Paulo Thiago, and we know how both of those ended up. I think this is a good test for both fighters.
