This past Friday night featured a “feel good” story if ever there has been one inside the confines of the Octagon after Michael Chiesa walked away as the last man standing on the Ultimate Fighter 15, earning a six-figure contract and the title of TUF champion in the process. The victory was his fifth in three months, though more importantly it served as tribute to Chiesa’s father who passed away from cancer shortly after the unbeaten lightweight had earned a spot in the season’s house by winning in the premiere.
Unfortunately, it looks like the next chapter of Chiesa’s life will not be one spent preparing for his follow-up fight after the NAC revealed he’d injured his hand in his TUF 15 Finale win over Al Iaquinta. According to the regulatory board’s report, Chiesa is medically suspended until November 29 unless he has his hand x-rayed and cleared by a doctor at some point sooner.
Meanwhile, the event’s headliners both escaped their memorable match-up without any serious injury, as Jake Ellenberger will serve a month on the sidelines and Martin Kampmann getting an addition 30 days based on cuts to his face.
