Even though original opponent Jon Fitch recently went down due to injury, “The A-Train” will still make a stop in Calgary on July 11 as expected after it was revealed Kenny Robertson will fill the vacancy opposite Aaron Simpson as part of the lineup for UFC 149. The fight will mark Simpson’s welterweight debut.
The match-up was confirmed on this week’s episode of UFC Tonight.
Robertson came up short in a previous UFC appearance, losing by knockout to Mike Pierce, but picked up a strike-based stoppage himself over Lucio Linhares last October. He holds an 11-1 record with ten finishes including seven submissions.
By comparison, Simpson is 11-3 and coming off a Split Decision loss snapping a three-fight winning streak prior to the stumble.
UFC 149 is headlined by a featherweight title-bout between Jose Aldo-Erik Koch with other scheduled scraps including James Te Huna-Brandon Vera, Cheick Kongo-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, and Michael Bisping-Tim Boetsch.
