While Werdum recognizes the sound defense that Russow employes, the Brazilian plans on delivering a finish for his country.
“Mike Russow has good defense on the ground, but if he gives me one opportunity, I’ll finish the fight,” said Werdum in a recent interview with UFC. “Just one punch, or one kick, can finish a fight. The heavyweight division is very dangerous.”
Werdum is trying to work his way back to a rematch with Junior dos Santos, as the current UFC heavyweight champ knocked him out in 2008. to mark the first and only TKO defeat Werdum has suffered in his career.
The 15-5-1 “Vai Cavalo” has won four of his last five fights including a decision victory over Roy Nelson earlier this year. His lone loss since falling to Dos Santos came at the hands of Alistair Overeem in the recently-wrapped Stirkeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix. He and Russow will collide in co-headlining action at UFC 147 with Rich Franklin vs. Wanderlei Silva serving as the evening’s main event.
