UFC on FX 3 Results: Demetrious Johnson eliminates doubt with decision win over Ian McCall

After a minor setback due to deficient mathematic ability the UFC has determined a second semifinalist in their four-man flyweight tournament aimed at crowning the company’s first divisional champion. The two men who tussled tonight in the main event of UFC on FX 3 were none other than Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson, the very competitors who collided in March in an evenly-matched affair that should have been ruled a Draw and gone to an overtime period but was ultimately ended prematurely when judges’ errantly scored the fight in Johnson’s favor.

The 11-2-1 McCall had won four straight entering the bout, while Johnson was 4-1 in his previous five fights including wins at bantamweight over Miguel Torres and Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto. Both McCall and Johnson are considered to be among the top 125ers in the sport. In the end “Mighty Mouse” emerged victorious with a convincing decision win including an early moment where he rocked McCall with a precise punch in the first.

Other fights on tonight’s card included Josh Neer-Mike Pyle and Scott Jorgensen-Eddie Wineland. Both bouts ended in beautifully brutal fashion with a pair of knockouts including Pyle’s perfectly placed right cross that sent Neer face-first to the canvas.

Missed the opening fight, but the second two — both featuring a guy named Magalhaes — were terrible, with neither guy looking like they belong anywhere near the UFC.

At this point, I am wondering if the judges and refs have the same dealer, or they’re mix-and-matching.

just tuned in and saw the Wineland/Scotty fight. I was wondering why the ref didn’t stop the fight and have the doc take a look at that cut. Kinda glad he didn’t.

I got home just in time for the main card. First two fights have been friggin awesome!

Mike Pyle has now won 5 outta 6 and yet a lot of fans don’t seem to view that as a the really solid victory on Rory’s resume that it is.

…with Pyle’s lone loss in those 6 fights obviously coming to Rory, in case that wasn’t clearly implied.

  • Richard Stabone says:

I guess part of the reason people might largely overlook the Pyle victory is that Rory so thorougly dominated him.

OK, I’ll shut up about Rory now… except to add that, dang, taking a fight with that dude seems like a dumb reason to come out or retirement for Mr. Penn.

Main event hasn’t started and the main card has redeemed the evening.

Dana and co. better be cutting some checks. Especially given the dubious officiating.

I’d like a sudden death rd but if not I got Johnson by a mouse whisker

Ian seemed bigger this time around. I could be wrong but assuming he did come in a bit heavier it definitely didn’t seem to help him… reminded me a little bit of BJ vs. Frankie as far as the speed factor dictating the fight.

Creepy was up to 150 the night of the weigh ins.

Aside from the judge who scored it 30-27, it was the correct decision. Razor thin advantage in round 3 won it, IMO. Great fight.
