Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem were expected to meet earlier this year in the first UFC heavyweight title defense for the young Brazilian champion. However, after Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test and was eventually denied his fight license by the Nevada Athletic Commission, “Cigano” was placed into a match with Frank Mir. Dos Santos had little trouble toppling Mir and is now expected to meet Cain Velasquez in at UFC 152.
In the meantime, Overeem is in the midst of sitting and waiting for his suspension to be lifted in December before he can re-apply for his license. When he does, Dos Santos doesn’t believe he should be the #1 contender in the division.
“A guy who uses doping is a fake fighter,” said dos Santos in a recent interview with ESPN. “I think he doesn’t deserve a title shot right now. Overeem needs to have another fight before having a title shot.”
Dos Santos also said that he and Overeem should be subjected to a blood test before they fight, adding, “I want a clean fight and he needs to prove he is not under any kind of substances.”
