Anthony Johnson expresses interest in fighting at 205 pounds

After numerous issues in the past on the scale it appears Anthony Johnson will finally bite the bullet and admit he’s a 205-pounder. According to Titan FC CEO Joe Kelly, “Rumble” will compete at light heavyweight in his next fight under the company’s banner.

“(Johnson) has stated that in his next fight, he wants to fight for us at 205, so that’s where the fight will be in July,” said Kelly while appearing on BloodyElbow Radio recently. “We’ll see.”

Johnson won his debut for Titan FC by defeating Dave Branch earlier this year though he came in heavy for the fight. The move was a major disappointment for fans after Johnson expressed confidence that his weight-related problems were behind him. He was handed his walking papers by the UFC after losing to Vitor Belfort in a fight he initially came in ridiculously over for.

As a reminder, Kelly will be on tonight’s edition of Rebellion MMA Radio where he’ll no doubt discuss the issue further.

I do not see where he had much of a choice. He could not make 185 without cutting a limb off. Wonder if he tried Dolche(missspelled I’m sure)?

I still have a feeling he’ll miss weight.

For his health this should have been done long time ago. Hope he can make a go at it. Was fun to watch him Rumble

Light f’in heavyweight? I just went to AJ’s wikipedia page to confirm that he fought at 170 once upon a time (a hilarious read, BTW. Recommended). Unreal.

Rumble must have read a few internet threads on his missing weight so often…

I have a feeling it’s not just the weight that’s the problem, but how he’s cutting instead, either he’s doing it wrong with a bad nutritionist, or he just doesn’t exactly care.

It was only about 8 months ago that AJ last cut to 170 (well, 171 to be exact)… dude is nuts.

AJ is over 6 feet tall with a big frame… check out where his midsection is compared to a guy like Koscheck. He towers over him, and Kos is a guy who cuts ~25 pounds himself to make weight. For Johnson to cut the 40-50 pounds to hang at WW was just insane… pretty incredible he was able to do it “successfully” on several occassions.

I still think AJ is a natural MW, but he just doesn’t make the cut. It may too many times of cutting to 171 that his body no longer lets the weight go like it used to. He’s gonna wind up being a smaller LHW, but if he doesn’t have to wreck his body to get there, it’s probably for the best.

Was it really only 8 months ago he fought at 171lbs ?!?

Yep, October 2011 when AJ nearly kicked Charlie “Tramp Stamp” Brenneman’s head off in the 1st round. At least he left the WW division with a bang…

Yeah I looked it up earlier. Crazy to think that less than a year ago he was able to make WW and now can’t even make MW.

old guy computer question..How do make those links to images in your posts

Al Gore created HTML tags so that folks like us can take internet forum discussion & trash talk to the next level. The HTML tag to add a link in your post looks like this…

    (a href =”http://www.fiveouncesofpain.com”)5 oz.(/a)

I used parentheses so it would actually show the full string above, but to make it actually work replace the parentheses like this: ( should be

    5 oz.

The tags always need to end with a slash mark, such as /a in the example above, and that’s why you see people end posts with a slash mark and cute comment…

OMG, Chael Sonnen is gonna totally beat Anderson Silva.

    /sarcasm

You can also do stuff like (i)italics(/i) and (b)bold(/b)… again replacing the parentheses with

Holy jeez I wanted to lick ‘em!

See, it really adds effect when used right.

Replace the parentheses with greater than & less than signs…
