When the UFC brought Jorge Santiago on board a year ago the MMA world was buzzing with the addition of a middleweight with wins in eleven of his twelve previous pairings including those against Siyar Bahadurzada, Jeremy Horn, Trevor Prangley, Mamed Khalidov, and Kazuo Misaki (twice). However, Santiago’s second stint inside the Octagon was short-lived, losing two straight to Brian Stann and Demian Maia before being handed his release.
Santiago has since started working his way back up to the top and has looked sharp in doing so. Over the weekend the 31-year old Brazilian scored an opening round submission against Justin Guthrie at Titan FC 23, his second consecutive first-frame finish under the organization’s banner. The win improved Santiago’s record to 25-10 and marked his 23rd stoppage.
Prior to the performance the 16-5 Guthrie had come out with his hand raised five times in a row.
